An earth-bot's solution to plastic pollution / Russell Ayto.

Ayto, Russell, (author,, illustrator.).

Summary:
"In his signature quirky style, Russell Ayto takes on the plastic crisis in Plastic Pollution Is Ruining Our Ocean! -- a story about a video game-loving boy named Neo and some unexpected aquatic visitors, who need his help. Neo and his grandfather live by the ocean. The ocean has a big problem. It's called plastic pollution. Plastic pollution is also a big problem in Neo's room. His room is a complete mess. Grandpa calls it "an area of outstanding danger to nature." But Neo doesn't notice ... Like a lot of kids, Neo loves video games. And he doesn't care what his room looks like. He's happiest when he's playing his favourite video game -- Space Cabbages, which mainly involves defending planet Earth from invading aliens, by chucking cabbages at them. But Grandpa really wants him to clean up his room, so just as he's heading out for an astronaut reunion party, he hands Neo a feather duster, a vacuum cleaner and a recycling bin. Neo is right in the middle of an attack by giant space centipedes that have been sent by the aliens to eat all the cabbages when he hears a knock at the door ... It's a seal. "Please can you help us? Plastic Pollution is ruining our Ocean," the seal says. "I'm busy saving the planet," replies Neo, "but you can have this feather duster." A short time later, there's another knock at the door. A penguin and a turtle have come to ask for help. Neo gives them the vacuum cleaner and the recycling bin. But feather dusters, vacuum cleaners and recycling bins don't work underwater. The animals convince Neo to come and see for himself. It's an ACTUAL PROPER CATASTROPHE! Worse than an attack of giant centipedes and aliens put together! What can they do? They need an actual proper solution for plastic pollution! Hmm, Neo thinks. When he plays Space Cabbages, the only way to defeat the aliens is if all the Earth-Bots team up to fight the aliens. That's it! They need everybody to join together to combat plastic pollution. And if they don't want to keep having catastrophes, everyone is going to have to stop using so much plastic! The last page will feature ways kids can help combat plastic pollution."-- Provided by publisher.
